But try this: Gozo, a small, rustic and scenic island with a laid-back atmosphere (a tranquil heaven); once on Gozo, it feels as if you have travelled back in time. Discover the prehistoric Ggantijia temples, dating back to 3,500 BC. Explore the fortified Citadel in the main town of Victoria, boasting panoramic views of the island. Soak up the sun in Dwerja, with its dramatic caves, and swim in the spectacular sea of the Xlendi Bay, before grabbing a bite at one of its quaint seaside restaurants.

On particularly clear nights you can see the lights of the villages of Sicily, a magical experience in itself.
